NYS DEC Awards $60k grant to The BMLA

Big News! The Blue Mountain Lake Association was awarded a $60k grant from the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation to be used over the next three years to support its project to eliminate Variable Leaf Milfoil, a highly aggressive aquatic invasive species, from Utowana Lake, and to prevent its spread throughout the Eckford Chain of lakes. It was one of 43 projects funded statewide, and one of four in the North Country (and the only one in Hamilton County!)

This grant validates the Blue Mountain Lake Association's past and future work to combat VLM since it was discovered in 2020. Special thanks to Michele Curry, Peter Bauer and Jessy Gray who spearheaded this effort and submitted the NYS grant request. It’s great news for us and for the long-term health of our lakes. It also goes a long way toward bolstering our funds to continue this important effort.
